Hydraulic presses utilize hydraulic cylinders to produce compressive forces based on Pascal's law using incompressible fluid, usually hydraulic oil.

Hydraulic presses play an integral part in fabrication, assembly and maintenance in many sectors. They help flatten, bend and straighten materials into their desired shapes and sizes for assembly purposes.

Basics

There are various kinds of hydraulic presses on the market, each designed for specific tasks. From shaping metal and other materials, to crushing cars. Their most powerful models can exert more than 100,000 lb of force - enough to break most objects if used without control - but these must still be managed carefully to avoid accidents.

A hydraulic press uses a hydraulic cylinder to generate compressive force. It operates according to Pascal's law, which states that any pressure applied at one location in a confined fluid system will be distributed evenly throughout it - making this machine capable of amplifying even small forces.

A hydraulic press consists of two cylinders, with one being larger than the other, that are filled with hydraulic oil to transmit force to an object being pressed. The smaller cylinder is known as the plunger while its counterpart known as the ram can be powered either with electricity, air, or hand pumps to adjust pressure accordingly.

Hydraulic presses have many uses, from flattening and drawing to punching, stamping and moulding. They're even useful for repairing vehicles and producing fruit juice. But their most common application lies in forging metal items through localized compressive forces.

Comparative to other machines capable of doing the same task, a hydraulic press is more cost-efficient and safer to operate than its counterparts. Its force is transferred directly from die to workpiece surface through hydraulic fluid pressure transmission system for less wear-and-tear on surface and greater durability over other machines. Furthermore, less maintenance is required and its lifespan outlives others machines.

Hydraulic presses stand out as being unique among machine tools by being capable of exerting full force at every point in their stroke - an attribute not found with other tools. This ability makes hydraulic presses indispensable in many manufacturing processes and speeds up results quicker while also enabling operators to select appropriate tools for specific jobs.

Preparation

As with any machine, building a hydraulic press begins with creating the frame. Steel frames can better withstand the pressure exerted on them by hydraulic pumps; motor and other parts are then attached. Once everything is ready, pneumatic tubing may be attached before testing and adjusting of the pump takes place. Finally, use of your press can begin! To avoid injury while crushing objects it is imperative that safety glasses and blast shields be worn as well as hard hats and gloves as certain items can become very hazardous when crushed.

The Hydraulic Press Channel (HPC) is a YouTube channel created in 2015 by Lauri Vuohensilta of Tampere, Finland; along with his wife Anni they own and run Vuohensilta Engineering Works factory where this piece of machinery resides.

What sets HPC apart from other destruction-themed YouTube channels and imitations derived from hydraulic presses is Lauri and Anni themselves, who both compete competitive powerlifting as part of Lauri's family-owned machining business since he was thirteen. Both stocky and strong individuals with thick Finnish accents used humorously throughout crushing sequences - creating an engaging viewing experience!

The couple also regularly uploads videos that don't revolve around press use, such as their attempts at baking a cake or cooking food with large-scale machinery. On their secondary channel Beyond the Press they share footage from work they do in their shop for clients as well as preparation work for pressing videos. Lauri has admitted in "Hydraulic Press Channel Q&A-Video" that although his English skills weren't great at school he learned most from watching television shows and video games in English.
