Herbal tinctures are prepared by submerging decarboxylated plant botanicals in high proof alcohol for several hours to decarboxylate and extract active compounds.
Liquid forms of herbal remedies provide more direct access and faster absorption into the body than tablets or capsules.
Tinctures, fruit, herb and oil extracts can be made easily using our hydraulic tincture press.
Preparation
Herbal medicine offers an alternative solution for many of the world's ailments that is both cost-effective and long-lasting: Tinctures are one such herbal preparation made by submerging decarboxylated plant botanicals in high proof alcohol in order to extract their medicinal properties and preserve their healing benefits.
Pressing out tinctures can be messy and time consuming, making it hard to achieve an ideal ratio while avoiding mold or rot growth. Furthermore, using a car jack may prove unsafe when making this attempt.
Medicine Hill Herbs hydraulic tincture press provides the solution. Featuring a removable stainless steel plate with 12 drainage holes that sits inside an herb pan, an bottom mounted bottle jack applies upward pressure on two plates which press herbs and tincture together while draining to an empty glass jar (not included). All assembly components are constructed from high quality medical/food grade 304L stainless steel for ultimate performance.
Assembly
Making an herbal press was designed to address all the key challenges associated with pressing herb. No more strenuous wringing out in cloth bundles or using oily car jacks; rather it's designed for quick, easy use that takes up minimal storage space.
This design utilizes food-grade stainless steel parts and features an innovative expandable metal bowl to evenly distribute pressure across plant material and avoid the rough edges commonly found with topside mounted tincture presses. This package comes complete with a bottom-mounted bottle jack to avoid the risk of hydraulic fluid spillage into your tincture, as is often seen with topside mounts. A form-fitted stainless-steel juncture connects it with the reversible platen. This press provides tremendous pressure over an extended period of time compared to traditional presses with fixed plunger settings, and the resulting marc can easily be pulled from its reversible platen, enabling multiple pressings without having to reset the jack, thus shortening total pressing time.
Pressing
Use of a hydraulic press when pressing herb products is both efficient and guarantees maximum potency, by extracting all constituents trapped in marc which would otherwise be lost.
Many images of tinctures show whole fresh herbs floating daintily in alcohol, which is perfectly acceptable if your goal is a low potency herbal tincture. But for producing high potency herbal tinctures, make sure that your herb product is finely minced and tightly packed so it will sink beneath the alcohol's surface.
This tincture press is easy to use, quick to clean and requires minimal storage space. Equipped with highly-rated Strongway bottle jacks constructed in ISO certified facilities and rigorously tested for safety, quality and reliability - its bottom mount configuration prevents hydraulic fluid from spilling onto the tincture as may occur with topside mounted bottle jacks.
Storage
Hydraulic presses use atmospheric pressure rather than muscle power to press herbs. They are more precise than screw presses and have superior designs for disc attachments.
Tinctures are an effective natural remedy that can address many health concerns quickly and conveniently. Making one is straightforward, and once you experience them for yourself you will understand why this form of herbal medicine has grown increasingly popular over time.
Herbs can be stored safely for years in the fridge, but light can quickly discolor tinctures. Even 30 seconds of sun exposure is enough to make beer taste unpleasant; similarly this process will alter the flavor of any tincture stored under light exposure. To protect their potency and quality of flavor, store your tinctures in dark environments - we suggest tinted mason jars designed specifically for infusions/tinctures as they feature date labels on them to easily track how old your product is.
