There are a number of factors that can affect hydraulic press repair time. By understanding these issues, you can ensure your business runs efficiently.
If you discover your press is not functioning as it should, it may be time for professional repairs. The sooner you address issues, the better off your shop will be in the long run.
Damage to the Frame
Frame damage is one of the most frequent issues we see when it comes to automotive repair, as it can seriously compromise the functionality of many different components in your vehicle.
Damage can range from the obvious and easy to detect to more subtle and hard to detect. Sagging and twisting pose particular difficulties for diagnosis.
Sagging can be caused by a variety of factors, such as time and accidents. Twisting, on the other hand, may occur from either one major event or over an extended period.
Hydraulic presses can be dangerous if misused. Their heavyweight, high-pressure moving parts necessitate special precautions for safe use.
Leaks
A hydraulic system leak can be a serious safety and business hazard, potentially leading to downtime, lost productivity and even fire hazards. Not only is the cost of repair high but the potential downtime and financial ruin are also substantial factors in such an event.
A hydraulic leak can have a major impact on productivity, as any drop per second can equate to over 420 gallons of wasted fluid over the course of one year!
Another frequent issue is fluid contamination by debris such as dust, dirt and water. This increases wear rate and accelerates component failure.
Fortunately, there are several methods to combat leaks and manage them effectively. The key is detecting and responding promptly; doing so can save both time and money in the long run.
Pressure Issues
Many hydraulic press systems can become damaged due to internal leaks. This could result in a decrease in pressure, leading to an increase in temperature and fluid viscosity that ultimately damages the entire system.
Regularly inspect your machine to detect potential issues early on and have a professional repair it, thus avoiding full hydraulic press replacement in the future.
An oil leak often results from a contaminated piston oil seal or damaged or worn piston packing. To avoid this from occurring, ensure your press's oil reservoir is never overfilled and clean or replace check balls and piston packing on a regular basis.
Leaking oil from the pump plunger is another common issue. To prevent this from occurring, inspect your pump and tighten packing nuts as necessary; replace packing on a regular basis as well.
Valve Coils
Solenoid coils can become damaged due to a variety of circumstances, such as high voltage, an inadequate electrical supply or excessive temperatures in their environment.
Coils that receive too much voltage or frequency may burn out and require replacement. To prevent this from occurring, make sure you are receiving the correct voltage and frequency as specified on their label.
Additionally, it is essential that the armature tube does not come into contact with water or any liquids. Certain solenoid valves are equipped with o-rings which help prevent water ingress between the armature tube and coil.
Hydraulic Hoses
Hoses are essential components of any hydraulic system and can be found across a variety of industries. From industrial production lines and logistics networks to rail transportation and farming operations, hoses play an essential role.
These systems require various types of hoses. Options include coiled wire, textile braided and spiral designs.
Some hoses are constructed from high-pressure materials that can withstand a wide range of temperatures and pressures, while others have more rigid characteristics and may only function at low or moderate pressures.
Hydraulic hoses have performance specifications that specify both internal liquid temperature and external working temperature, as well as minimum and maximum pressure limits. Exceeding these recommendations can drastically reduce a hose's life expectancy.
