No matter if you're starting from zero or just want to squeeze every last drop of juice out of your grapes, Hydraulic presses for wine making can be an efficient solution. The key is selecting the correct type of press based on your needs and priorities.

Basket presses are generally gentler than membrane presses, leading to higher quality juice with fewer lees. Unfortunately, they're smaller in capacity and batch production may not be as large.

1. Stability

Winemakers can reap numerous advantages from using a hydraulic press, such as energy savings, ease of use and stability.

When selecting a presses, there are two primary types: basket and bladder. Which type you select ultimately comes down to your priorities and preferences.

When producing small lots, the basket press may be your best bet. On the other hand, if volume and quality are key factors in your production processes, a pneumatic membrane press might be more suitable.

The primary distinction between basket presses and other presses lies in how they apply pressure to grapes. A basket press applies pressure downward, perpendicular to its direction of travel (outward), which may cause some wine to pool nearer the center of the cake; this requires extensive pressing in order to extract all juice, as well as creating solids which must be racked off, particularly for red wines.

2. High squeezing rate

A hydraulic press for wine making applies controlled pressure on a grape in order to extract juice. This step of the production is essential and its quality can have an enormous effect on the final flavor of the finished wine.

A piston powered by tens of thousands of pounds applies pressure to grapes in a press, forcing juice from the bunches out the sides and into a tray at the end.

Pascal's Law dictates that when a fluid is subjected to constant pressure, its properties remain unchanged throughout. This principle underlies all hydraulic presses.

3. Easy to clean

Cleaning a hydraulic press for winemaking is no problem. Unlike traditional basket presses, these units are entirely constructed out of stainless steel, making them incredibly easy to keep clean.

The brushed stainless finish makes them more resistant to rust. Furthermore, they can be quickly disassembled and sanitized after each use - especially helpful if you're busy and don't have time to do it yourself!

Squeezing can be quite impressive, but be careful not to overdo it. Use only top-quality stainless steel for your new press and avoid using excessive force when pressing; otherwise, you could damage either the press or cause extensive damage to your fruit. Finally, ensure you thoroughly rinse the unit after each use in order to remove any dirt or residue; this will help ensure you get maximum juice out of your grapes! You can do this by either washing with mild soap and water solution or spraying with commercial grade stainless steel cleaner.

4. Energy saving

Hydraulic presses for wine production offer energy savings by operating with an electric actuator to create pressure, instead of needing a hydraulic power unit (HPU) and costly crankshaft or flywheel repairs.

Retrofitting servo-electric presses to existing machinery is a cost and time saver compared to buying a brand-new press, and these presses can last millions of cycles before needing maintenance.

They are much quieter than traditional hydraulic presses and consume less energy to run. Furthermore, they can run at lower temperatures, cutting cooling costs in half.

Selecting the ideal press for your process depends on several factors. Continuous presses offer large processing volumes and low labor costs, but may compromise juice quality. On the other hand, vertical basket presses are perfect for smaller batches where juice quality takes priority over quantity.
