Hydraulic presses utilize high-pressure fluids to generate energy, making them useful in various industries such as automotive, aerospace, military and construction.

They apply a small mechanical force (F1) to apply pressure in one area, then expand that same region to create greater force (F2). According to Pascal's law, this creates constant pressure throughout the working fluid.

Compression

Compression presses are widely employed in various industries to fabricate parts and components from various materials.

Hydraulic presses use compression to shape powdered material into various shapes and designs. They may also be employed in concrete compacting operations.

The mechanism behind these pumps is straightforward. Two cylinders with pistons sit atop one another, and sealing fluid transfers pressure between them to an upper cylinder which drives a ram and die.

When set to its maximum pressure, the press exerts only that amount of force set. There's no need to worry about overpressing or breaking the die, making it ideal for applying heavy amounts of pressure on metal without damaging either the piece itself or any tools used in its operation.

Bending

Hydraulic presses are widely used in various industries, including agriculture. They can compress materials, separate rusted or unwanted parts, and even press bearings out of equipment.

Machines also can be utilized to craft unique shapes out of sheet metal and other materials. Some models feature multiple dies that enable you to shape almost any design with precision.

On a hydraulic press, the bending process begins with a pump that creates an upward force which causes a cylinder to extend and make contact with material being bent by pressing dies.

Bending can be controlled with a back gauge that helps position the material precisely, or optical sensors sending real-time data about bend angle to machine controls. This information helps adjust the bending process and produce desired results.

Forming

Hydraulic presses utilize multiple rams to shape sheet metal into desired shapes. These rams are propelled by a hydraulic pump and accumulator, providing high-pressure fluid to the press.

These presses are renowned for their precision and accuracy when producing parts. Additionally, they boast great versatility.

Ram force, pressure dwell duration, press direction and release of force can all be adjusted and programmed to fit the job requirements. This enables quicker setups while keeping ram pressure under control.

Forming can be done on a variety of materials, such as stainless steel, aluminum and brass. It is used to create shapes like tubes, bars and wires; other applications include piercing, embossing and press fitting.

Forging

Hydraulic presses are powerful machines that compress and shape metal into desired shapes. Their basic components include the frame, ram, and hydraulic system.

Hydraulic presses can be utilized to shape a range of materials. They're suitable for closed die, isothermal, or open die applications and come in various tonnage capacities.

Hydraulic presses are more cost-effective and produce fewer scrap pieces compared to other forging processes. Furthermore, they produce parts with superior mechanical properties and superior integrity.

The strain rate of a workpiece during a forging stroke affects flow stress, characteristics and microstructure. High-speed equipment is more prone to flow localization, which may reduce strength in localized areas.

Blanking

Blanking is a process that cuts shapes or forms out of metal coils, sheets, strips or billets. Once cut, the material can then be further processed.

Hydraulic presses are capable of performing a wide range of operations, such as forming, bending, piercing, punching and hole punching. A hydraulic press can be configured to suit any requirement or tailored specifically to the task at hand.

Fine blanking presses are specialized machines that process materials as thin as a few thousandths of an inch (a few microns). These presses operate hydraulically or mechanically and can handle various materials.

A fine blanking press utilizes three primary motions during blanking: a stinger motion to bring the piece up and hold it securely; a blanking motion to push the part into the die cavity; and counterpressure pressure to hold against the blank punch and expel it once all blanking has been completed.
