Installed into each hydraulic cylinder designed to contain pressurized hydraulic fluid is a sealing system capable of keeping out pressure. Often this involves the installation of primary and secondary seals that come in various materials depending on its environment, stroke length, maximum operating pressure and bore size requirements.
Not only does a cylinder come equipped with its own sealing system, it is also outfitted with mounting attachments like flanges, trunnions and clevises - essential parts that allow it to connect to equipment or machines that it will be used on. Connection between cylinder and mount are typically either screwed or bolted for convenience - though for more complex cylinders used in harsh environments or higher pressure environments the connection between flange and cylinder may need welding in order to withstand all stresses present within their environment.
The Press Plates
Hydraulic presses connect to platens using hydraulic cylinders for compression. This allows the plates to move in and out of their frames for various tasks like forging, clinching, moulding, punching and deep drawing. They're commonly found in automotive, aerospace and manufacturing environments for pressing metals and materials into shape.
Printing plates are made of metal or polymer materials and used to press images onto sheets of paper to form images. Once formed, these printing plates can be used on manufacturing equipment similar to giant stamps to print designs onto packaging in mass quantities - some printing plates have even printed over one million boxes without needing replacement! Printing plates have raised elements that cling to ink for transfer from plate to paper surface, giving an image transfer from image on plate directly.
Plates are etched with different images depending on the ink that will be printed onto them; typically this includes Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black inks. When creating baseball cards for players from the 1970s using yellow plates with heavy images etched on it; Cyan and Magenta plates would feature lighter images, while Black wouldn't feature any at all.
These etched plates are then washed to remove any unsuspected parts of the polymer, followed by exposure to UVA and UVC light to activate their etchings and make them ready to use. Once ready for use, these plates can be put onto chases with paper run through presses with platen touching blanket and ink transferred from plates onto paper, creating the final product one color at a time.
