When Was the First Hydraulic Press Used?
time:2023-04-10 views:(点击 463 次)Hydraulics have been around for millennia, yet it wasn't until 1795 that Joseph Bramah invented the first hydraulic press. His invention allowed manufacturers to apply fluid power directly to production equipment.
His device consisted of two cylinders, one large and one small, filled with liquid. He and a colleague observed that the pressure created on the smaller cylinder transferred to the larger one.
Joseph Bramah
Joseph Bramah was an English engineer and inventor renowned for his hydraulic press invention. He also created the numerical printing machine, beer engine, machinery to make aerated water and planing machines, as well as improvements to steam-engines and boilers.
Born in Yorkshire, he began his working life as a ploughman before becoming an apprentice to a carpenter. Later, he moved to London and established his own business as both a cabinet-maker and locksmith.
He achieved great success as a businessman, inventing and patenting numerous new inventions throughout his career. One of his last inventions was a hydrostatic press capable of uprooting trees which was put to use at Holt Forest in Hampshire.
He also developed and patented his Bramah Lock, an effective mechanism that deters lock pickers and enhances security wherever it is installed. Collaborating with Henry Maudslay, a smith, he devised advanced machinery for manufacturing his locks.
Pascal’s Law
A hydraulic press works on the principle of Pascal's Law, which states that pressure applied to a fluid will be transmitted throughout it. This same principle allows hydraulic jacks to raise cars, automobile brakes to stop them and airplane wings to lift off.
Pascal's Law was first discovered by French mathematician Blaise Pascal around 1653. He observed that pressure applied to a fluid was evenly distributed throughout its entirety.
He further demonstrated that when a liquid was at rest, its pressure would remain consistent across all planes that passed through it - this served as the foundation of his law.
This discovery inspired the invention of hydraulic cylinders, which are ubiquitous in machines that utilize pressure transfer. One such device, the hydraulic press, utilizes two pistons with different areas to apply force to a sample being pressed.
Hydraulic cylinders
Joseph Bramah, an Englishman, invented the first hydraulic press. He realized that applying pressure to the top of a narrow cylinder would cause its contents to move into liquid state.
He and a colleague discovered that by creating cylinders with matching pistons sealed with leather and self-tightening collars, you could apply this principle to power machines. This technology became the cornerstone of industrialization.
Hydraulic cylinders are frequently employed in construction machinery like excavators and bulldozers. They're also found in material handling equipment like forklift trucks and telehandlers, as well as mining operations where they provide power to drilling and earthmoving tools.
Hydraulic pumps
When the hydraulic press was invented, it revolutionized how machines worked. It revolutionized how cranes, excavators, tractors, loaders and other heavy equipment were constructed and utilized - from cranes to excavators, tractors to loaders - forevermore.
A hydraulic pump transports liquids from a tank or reservoir to other system parts via its inlet and outlet valves. Additionally, it creates a vacuum in its inlet which allows atmospheric force to push liquids from the tank into the pump.
Hydraulic pumps can be designed to meet customer specifications in terms of maximum fluid flow rate, minimum operating pressure, horsepower output and working speeds. Furthermore, they may include discharge sensors which help monitor system health and keep pumps running optimally.
Hydraulic pumps come in three varieties: axial piston, radial piston and rotary vane. Axial piston pumps utilize pistons mounted axially within internal cylinders to generate alternating suction and discharge flows. These designs are available as variable rate devices or pressure compensator models to maintain a constant discharge pressure under varying loads.
