While this video is fantastic, it should be noted that the diamond being crushed in it is not real; rather it is synthetic diamond. In their newest video, they test the strength of diamond by crushing it using their hydraulic press - to surprising effect; though its initial resistance was impressive enough, eventually breaking under its own weight due to being made up of carbon atoms crystallized and tightly packed together in lattice structures; giving diamond its incredible hardness but making it more fragile at the same time.
A hammer, on the other hand, is typically constructed of soft materials like metals and wood that have lower tensile strength than diamonds and therefore break easily under pressure.
